Patrick Francis and his artwork.
A special exhibition
ESSENDON’S Patrick Francis is one of 80 artists who will have their work on display at Federation Square as part of a new exhibition.
The ADEC ArtAbility Exhibition features art by people with ethnic backgrounds and disabilities and includes paintings, sketches and woven images.
ADEC, which stands for Advocacy, Disability, Ethnicity and Community, is an organisation that supports people from ethnic backgrounds who have a disability and their families and carers.
Francis, who has autism with an intellectual disability, has contributed three abstract paintings for the show.
His mother, Sandra Francis, said her son had been painting ‘‘for quite a few years’’.
‘‘ We’re from India, originally,’’ Mrs Francis said.
‘‘And we send (the paintings) to the family as keepsakes.’’
She said Francis, 18, would be starting further arts training at Northcote’s Arts Project Australia studios next year.
But art isn’t his only interest. Francis is also a keen tenpin bowler, swims plays golf and tennis.
The ADEC ArtAbility Exhibition – which explores the theme of home – is at the Atrium Foyer, Federation Square, November 25 to December 1 . De t a i l s : adec.org.au
